Chair of Technology and Operations

Dr. Damian Beil is the Area Chair for the Technology & Operations group at Ross. He teaches the MBA operations management core and an elective on strategic sourcing. In his research, Beil develops mathematical models to analyze complex problems in sourcing. His primary research interests are in strategic sourcing, supply chain management, and market design across a variety of settings and industries. He serves as an Associate Editor for Management Science, Operations Research, and Naval Research Logistics, and is on the Editorial Board of INFORMS Analytics Collections. Prior to joining Michigan, Beil received a BA in Mathematics from New College and a PhD in Operations Research from MIT.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

Through the course of this program, you will work on a capstone project specifically designed to give you the tools to apply your learnings in a real world context. This application-oriented approach will instill practical problem-solving skills, strategic decision-making capabilities, and innovative thinking. It will also enhance collaborative skills through peer learning and cooperation.

The focus of the project could be a business plan for a new idea, an existing or perceived business challenge at your workplace, or a potential opportunity in the market. You will identify a suitable and significant topic and execute it in three phases:

  • Project initiation, planning and research
  • Project review
  • Final presentation and feedback session
