A Scheduling Model That Helps Reduce Staffing Costs

UCLA Anderson’s Kumar Rajaram and University of North Carolina’s Sandeep Rath have developed a model that can measure the hidden costs of certain staffing decisions usually made by humans, and reduce staffing costs.

Considering these hidden costs of unhappy workers and idle time is what can help reduce overall staffing costs. Staffing software in use allows for explicit costs to be considered. But it is not equipped to identify and tackle implicit costs. This new model by the researchers does.
