What to Expect From Returning to Work

There are still some big questions about the future of work that need to be considered to find answers to. We frequently become completely engrossed in our daily routines without actually understanding the fundamentals of dealing with situations. As a result, it is critical to embrace flexibility in order to be prepared to improve your performance when returning to work. In this TED Business podcast episode, Indra Nooyi speaks with host Adam Grant discusses some fundamentals, shares her experiences, and allows us to reimagine returning to work.

The podcast episode begins with Indra and Adam discussing a few of her past career experiences before moving on to a situation in which she explained “issue selling” through one of her previous job experiences. The term “issue selling” refers to taking on a personal passion and attempting to persuade the organization that it is important. She goes on to say that in order to sell an issue effectively, you must be engaged with your head, heart, and hand. She believes it is critical to be emotionally invested in the issue and firmly convinced of its importance. Following this, you will be able to future-proof your company after returning to work. She advises putting your company ahead of you in order to give your best. The conversation between Indra and Adam takes an interesting turn, revealing another very important piece of advice to follow after returning to work: how to effectively negotiate your opinion with stakeholders and get them on board with it. She suggests persuading stakeholders not only in favor of the product but also in favor of how the product affects consumers. She advises breaking free from the product’s inflexible regulations and believes that making changes before the government mandates it is critical. She basically advises portraying your opinion in the favor of the company and its brand value. Making your peers and coworkers feel deeply valued is something you must practice when returning to work, according to Indra, who also considers it a mandatory practice to follow. She believes it is prudent to hold back and develop control over your anger before engaging in a peaceful and calm conversation with your peers. Although direct review and feedback are necessary for employees to recognize their mistakes, it can still be done constructively.

She concludes the podcast episode by emphasizing the importance of rethinking the communities and relationships we want to build with society. There is something more important than meeting deadlines and turning projects into successes, and it is known as ‘making a difference in the world.’ And it is this type of thinking that everyone needs to implement when returning to work.

When returning to work, you may consider returning to your old routine of meeting deadlines, conducting meetings, having bad sleeping cycles, and sitting in your office cubicles all day in front of computer screens. However, when returning to work, it is critical to take some skills and learn different strategies for managing your routine and workplace. Although it can be difficult at times, this discussion by Indra on the TED Business podcast episode will undoubtedly help you.
