Power Dynamics: Gaining Power and Influence

Power dynamics is a constant battle in the business world. Some have all the power and still want more, while others want some power and are yet unable to get any. In this article for Forbes, the Joseph C. Wilson Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School and the Alan L. Gleitsman Professor of Social Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School Julie Battilana discusses power dynamics and ways to gain power and influence in an organization.

Along with co-author Tiziana Casciaro, a professor at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, Battilana lays down the fundamentals of power and how people gain and use it in their new book, Power, for All.

Gaining power and influence has changed since the COVID-19 pandemic. The power dynamics have shifted in favor of the employees and workers highlighting the crucial nature of essential workers in particular. As difficult as it may seem, workers have far more job options since there are more vacancies, which means more bargaining power.
