Key Components of Creative Problem-Solving

Since a workplace is a setting where individuals from various cultures, attitudes, and mentalities come together to work, certain conflicts or issues are unavoidable. While the most effective way to solve an issue is to band together against it and find a solution, most individuals become fixated on what has caused them distress. This approach neither solves the problem nor makes anyone feel better. As a result, leadership coach Dr. Sam Adeyemi proposes the main components of creative problem-solving in this podcast episode on The Modern Manager channel.

The episode begins with an overview of the three important components of creative problem-solving. According to Sam, the first thing individuals should do when confronted with an issue is to consider the broader picture. She adds that, while it is practically impossible for anyone to divert their attention away from the situation at hand, she suggests doing so and recollecting what the team was initially aiming for. According to Sam, in order to obtain an effective solution, each problem that emerges must be considered within the framework of what the team is working for. Second, she proposes putting each team member’s skills to good use. Allow individuals the time and space they need to find out how they can best contribute to this collaborative effort to solve the problem, so they feel involved and driven rather than compelled to do anything. Finally, Sam says that collaborative brainstorming is at the heart of problem-solving. She claims that group brainstorming produces some of the most effective solutions. The episode concludes that this also aids in addressing any blind spots we may have or in determining how to merge concerns with multiple departments.

Effective management calls for quick decisions to solve real-time problems. To accomplish it properly, we must prepare our teams for success. The aforementioned are the major phases in the creative problem-solving process that must be followed in order to attain a satisfactory solution.
