How to Effectively Present Your Pitch

A strong pitch can be a tremendous help to convince your target investors to provide you with the necessary resources, it can impress your leader to implement the project according to your course of action, and it can help you to gather a loyal team who believes in you. Often times a pitch is assumed to be the same as a presentation to persuade investors to invest the financial resources necessary for the smooth operation of your business. However, from giving an effective speech in various office meetings to presenting in front of the most influential people in an attempt to make them collaborate with you, having the ability to effectively present your pitch is imperative. It is also one of the most effective communication strategies that everyone from freshmen to senior executives should have, not just in the workplace but also in everyday life. As a result, organizational psychologist Adam Grant shares some helpful strategies on how to effectively present your pitch in this podcast episode of the ‘Worklife with Adam Grant‘ channel.

Adam opens the episode by explaining that when a pitch is rejected, it is frequently due to inadequate presentation more than the inefficiency of the idea. He claims that trying to persuade investors that your company will bring about change in the future is worthless unless it is demonstrated that the present needs to be transformed. He says that there must be an issue to tackle before you can present an effective solution. He argues that the problem your business is trying to solve is crystal clear in your mind because you have spent so much time trying to solve it, but it is not necessary that the investor is aware of it too. As a result, he believes that you must first describe the problem that your firm’s product or service attempts to solve before presenting your firm’s business model. He then goes on to make his second point, which states that you do not have to be passionate to effectively present your pitch. In his perspective, a serious, rational, and fact-based proposal is more likely to be able to persuade investors than an exciting pitch. He claims that while feeling passionate is beneficial, what you really need to effectively present your pitch is preparedness. His final piece of advice for making your pitch more effective is that the most important thing you can do is exude confidence. He believes it is critical to establish your collaborative nature in front of your investors. One method he suggests is to demonstrate to your investors that you are receptive to feedback and respond well to it in order to develop. He also recommends seeking advice on your work behavior, explaining how you have learned from your failures, or just asking a question. All these, in his opinion, will help you to present your pitch in a far more effective manner which will drive the investors to work with you.
