This workshop uses the Six Boxes® Model, a plain English descendent of Thomas F. Gilbert’s Behavior Engineering Model, to expand from Skinner’s three-term contingency to a systemic view of all factors that influence behavior. We’ll begin with an overview of Performance Thinking, the performance engineering methodology of which the Six Boxes Model is a part. We’ll review the Gallup 12 Employee Engagement survey research, and the impact of employee engagement on bottom-line results, then show how that research integrates with the Six Boxes Model. We’ll list best practices for leaders and managers, framed in the Six Boxes, and identify and celebrate best practices currently applied in your organization. Finally, you’ll identify opportunities to improve leadership and management practices for you, your team, and your whole organization. Dr. Carl Binder, currently CEO of The Performance Thinking Network, studied behavior science at Harvard with B.F. Skinner in the 1970s, and conducted both laboratory and applied research with Dr. B.H. Barrett before embracing accomplishment-based performance engineering in the early 1980s. He’s published several dozen chapters and articles, and received career awards from the American Psychological Association, the International Society for Performance Improvement, the Organizational Behavior Management Network, and the Standard Celeration Society. Carl leads a global network of colleagues who apply Performance Thinking® models, tools, and programs to a wide range of organizational performance challenges and opportunities.
