Who Runs the Internet?

The Log4J project is one of many open-source tools that facilitates volunteers to keep the internet running. But there are some sizable vulnerabilities. Jen Easterly, who is the director of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, commented that this might be one of the most significant issues she has witnessed.

The issue is that there is no designated person to deal with those insecurities, so who pays for the fix? Log4J helps run applications as big as iCloud and Twitter. But the vulnerabilities in the project could affect billions of machines. And while the hack is easy, the solution is not. This is an issue that could run for months or even years.
