Can We Make AI More Reliable?

Computer scientist and cognitive psychologist Geoffrey Hinton has been working on an imaginary system named GLOM that will make AI more reliable and trustworthy.

Hinton is a Google engineering fellow and cofounder of the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. He named the imaginary system GLOM, which is a derivation from “agglomerate” and the phrase “glom together.”

His experiments might mean a new way of processing and representing visual information in a neural network. GLOM is human perception modeled in a machine. It is inspired by the brain’s neurons and synapses and will ideally make AI more reliable and trustworthy.
