One Step Closer to True Quantum Computation

MIT researchers have gone a step further towards quantum computation. They demonstrated a technique that can eliminate common errors in the two-qubit operation or “gate”, which is the most essential operation of quantum algorithms.

The qubit-qubit interaction can be switched on and off with a tunable coupler. Unwanted, residual (ZZ) interaction between the two qubits can be eliminated by harnessing higher energy levels of the coupler.
