Transforming Manufacturing and Construction — One Girl at a Time

Yale GELP participant, Demi Knight Clark launched She Built This City, a social venture that will effectively be transforming manufacturing and construction industries. The social venture aims to create pathways for women into manufacturing and construction careers. Today, women make up just a third of the manufacturing workforce and only 8% of the construction workforce overall, a percentage that has remained stubbornly constant. Over half of these women are in sales and office jobs. And Clark know that all too well.

Fueled by her own experience of 20 years in executive leadership roles in construction and manufacturing firms, including some of the largest in the world, she was always surrounded by men. She fought through bias and mentored other women with a harsh realization that the numbers of women in operational roles didn’t change much.
