Watch Out for ‘Boreout’ Rather Than ‘Burnout’

Along with ‘burnout’ employees are also suffering from ‘boreout’ or a loss of interest in their current roles and jobs. Since the pandemic, the majority of the workforce has worked from home, and a large number of people still do. This sudden, unplanned WFH experiment has resulted in a sudden change in people’s lifestyles and in-turn has given rise to psychological or physiological problems for many employees. Much of this has resulted from burnout. This exhaustion has manifested in mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing issues such as depression, health problems, and loneliness.

The burnout has led to ‘boreout’, which is a lack of interest and excitement for their current roles and jobs. Many have taken a leap of faith to pursue their true ambitions.

A recent report by McKinsey studied 5,774 employees and 250 talent officers in five countries. It revealed that 40% of employees were in the process of leaving their jobs within the next six months. 36% of whom are comfortable to leave without any alternate job offers.
