Being Selfish Does Not Get You Ahead

New research that tracked people with selfish, combative, and manipulative personalities from college or graduate school to where they are in their careers 14 years later finds that being “jerks” didn’t help them get ahead.

The study was conducted by Berkeley Haas professor Cameron Anderson, who co-authored the study with UC Berkeley psychology professor Oliver P. John, Berkeley Haas doctoral student Daron L. Sharps, and associate professor Christopher J. Soto of Colby College.
