How You Can Change a Bad First Impression with Relative Ease

Prof. Alexander Todorov, the Leon Carroll Marshall Professor of Behavioral Science at Chicago Booth talks about how you can come back from a bad first impression. Todorov says that much of a primary impression is based on appearance so grooming and other superficial aspects can have an impact.

He also says that a bad first impression is not difficult to shed. It all depends on how much opportunity is there after the first impression in order to shift it from bad to good. In a situation where one might have multiple opportunities to observe someone who left a bad impression, there are multiple chances to shake the first impression through different interactions and circumstances.
