A Digital Seatbelt for Self-Driving Cars

Bastien Beauchamp with his company !Important, part of UC Berkeley SkyDeck’s accelerator program, has developed technology called “the digital version of a seat belt” for self-driving cars.

The technology works by analyzing the GPS coordinates of pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers who have downloaded the app. It compares their speeds and directions of travel and from there, an AI algorithm processes the anonymous data and works as a digital seatbelt to decide if there’s a risk of collision.
