Effective Networking During Covid-19

On this episode of the Repurpose Your Career podcast, host Mark Miller speaks about networking and remote work in a Covid-19 world, with the career and executive coach, facilitator, speaker, trainer, and host of the Work From the Inside Out podcast, Tammy Gooler Loeb, who has made her mark in multiple organizations such as education, biotechnology, healthcare, legal, and professional services.

Tammy shares her observation coming from coaching a variety of job seekers, amongst which some lost their jobs and some got caught off-guard by Covid-19 amidst a career transition. She explains that with proper coaching these individuals have begun to focus on finding a new job and getting ahead in their career despite all the difficulties and challenges.

There is no denying that Covid-19 has accelerated market transitions and changed our work and lives, but there are still tasks to accomplish and employers looking to recruit employees. So, she suggests that one should utilize the opportunity in hand to develop their LinkedIn profile, resume, and build an outstanding personal brand to make a difference. It’s an excellent time with the opportunity to re-imagine networking while connecting with people and engaging them into meaningful conversations. A great tip in order to have meaningful conversation is to focus on being interested, rather than being interesting. So, exercise curiosity because when you show genuine curiosity in other people, they eventually get curious about you too.

The expert duo talk about wonderful ways of networking during Covid-19 and reaching out to people that will make you stand out in this age. They also discuss the benefits and challenges of remote work and deduce that while some companies are prepared with a remote work continuity plan there are many companies that are re-evaluating the current situation. She further talks about flex jobs and the trends of remote hiring.

Lastly, she expressed that it is easy to shut your inner voice and pick something that isn’t really what you want to do but the genius is in always staying open and curious to what makes you happy and doing what you really want in life.
