A Fresh Start

A Fresh Start or an Excuse to Slack Off

UCLA Anderson’s Prof. Hengchen Dai, in collaboration with other global researchers, discovered that a self-improvement start date might actually have the opposite effect and might not be the fresh start we want.

Research by Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea’s Minjung Koo, UCLA Anderson’s Hengchen Dai, National University of Singapore’s Ke Michael Mai, and University of Florida’s Camilla Eunyoung Song, a Ph.D. student suggests that, a start date for a goal such as a birthday or New Years may encourage us to slack off rather than motivate us to work towards a fresh start.
