Tips to Practice Inclusion and Diversity in the Workplace

The need to practice inclusion and diversity in the workplace is critical, and it is gaining traction. Organizations continue to hire individuals with a variety of skills from all over the world to infuse their workplaces with culture. However, as beneficial as it is to accept people from diverse cultures, it may be challenging to create a welcoming climate in the workplace when people have differing viewpoints and habits. More than that, it is undoubtedly a difficult effort to establish a welcoming environment in which people from various backgrounds may feel as at ease with the work as the rest of the team. In order to do this, effectively practicing inclusion and diversity is critical, as Bibi Groot, the Director of Behavioral Science at Fair HQ, explains in this YouTube video on the TEDx Talks channel.

Bibi opens her talk by stating that variety, in her opinion, is what fuels innovation. She argues that being surrounded by individuals who share your beliefs limits your ability to explore and learn new things, limiting your ability to create. She feels that diversity brings you in contact with individuals who have various perspectives, who can teach you how to handle different circumstances in different ways, and who force you to learn something new every day. She claims that individuals who share the same point of view have a hard time getting along when they disagree. However, when individuals from various cultures get together, they are already open to accepting differences. She claims that because companies have an influence on every individual who works for them, they must try to ensure that inclusion and diversity are properly practiced. She advises that you get to know each other on a deeper and more nuanced level since that is how you can genuinely practice inclusiveness. She says that designing the environment is the most critical step any company can take to solve every inclusion and diversity problem. According to her, we must admit that we are not always sensible as humans and that knowledge alone is insufficient. She claims that the first step in developing a diverse environment is to hire the right people. Instead of checking aspiring applicants on the basis of the procedure’s narration, she suggests asking them to complete a brief activity. To make this even more efficient, she proposes that applicants be given code names that the person evaluating them is unaware of, allowing the quality of their work to be accurately appraised. She also encourages leaders and managers to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in the workplace.

When implemented properly, inclusion and diversity may greatly aid in the creation of a healthy and productive work atmosphere. You may learn more about this by watching Bibi Groot deliver a presentation on TEDx Talks on YouTube.
