JULY 23 – 24, 2016

Welcome to the second edition of “India Innovation Forum (IIF)”; a platform to engage in a dialogue on innovation. IIF aims to bring together individuals who are at the forefront of innovation across industries and functions. Prominent stakeholders in this ecosystem such as Entrepreneurs, VC and PE investors, corporate leaders and academic luminaries who are pushing boundaries in the most impactful manner will be in dialogue.

Innovation ecosystem in India is buzzing with high energy entrepreneurs, high visibility initiatives by large multinational and indian companies backed by an ambitious policy push by the Government. “Start in India” is the new reality across organisations of all sizes and variety. This year, IIF aims to explore various aspects, trends, best practices, and stakeholder perspectives around this theme. It will also serve as a platform for more personal and small group interactions around opportunities, learnings and experiences focused on “Start in India“.

Sundeep Kapila 
Co-Founder, Swasth India

Sundeep co-founded Swasth over 8 years ago with the vision of bringing high quality affordable healthcare to a large section of society. Swasth has touched more than half a million lives and continues to expand efforts with the likes of Mr. Ratan Tata coming on board. Sundeep completed his B. Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay in 2001. While at IIT, he worked with a campus-based startup and subsequently with a Swedish company to develop a technology product which has been spun off as a separate company. Sundeep joined the India practice of McKinsey & Company in 2001 and worked with them for 6.5 years, specializing in the Healthcare and Development sectors. Sundeep left McKinsey in Jan ’08 to pursue his passion in the development sector. Subsequent to that, he has completed 2.5 years of law studies from Mumbai University, M.D. in Alternative Medicine from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine and a Diploma of Associateship from the Insurance Institute of India.

Mr. M. S. Unnikrishnan has been the Managing Director at Thermax Ltd. since July 1, 2007 and serves as its Chief Executive Officer and Member of Executive Council. Mr. Unnikrishnan has been the Managing Director of Thermax Surface Coatings Ltd., since July 1, 2007. He served as an Executive Vice President of Thermax Ltd. He serves as an Executive Director of Thermax Ltd. and served as its Additional Director since July 1, 2007. He serves as Director at Thermax Babcock & Wilcox Energy Solutions Private Limited. He completed Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College Nagpur and Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.

Sridevi Raghavan 
Founder, Amelio Childcare

Sridevi Raghavan graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School and is co-founder and CEO of Amelio. Sridevi has a diverse work experience which enriched her exposure and thinking along businesses in India. Having started her career in advertising with Ogilvy and Mather, Sridevi shifted trajectory, and worked in a few non-profits such as CRY and CARE in India. In December 2012, Sridevi won the TiECon Chennai Award for entrepreneurship in recognition of the contribution of Amelio to the working women of Chennai. Sridevi is also the recipient of the Woman of the Year award for 2013 accorded by FICCI FLO. Sridevi regularly speaks at Industry conferences and at universities on the topics of women and work life balance. A trained Bharatanatyam dancer, Sridevi has performed in various cities in India and abroad. Sridevi also greatly enjoys travelling and reading.

Suman_Kapur 12:10 PM : Innovation Story – Redefining Diagnostics

Suman Kapur

Dr. Suman is a Senior Professor and HOD at BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus. Her research interests are Genetic markers for vulnerability to chronic human diseases, screening strategies for low-cost settings, medical devices for field deployment in low resource settings and disease prevention through herbal/natural products. Suman holds several patents, has published and/or edited several books, has published >200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, has delivered > 150 invited/keynote lectures and has organized several scientific meetings, workshops and dedicated trainings. Prof. Kapur was awarded the Photon Research Award, 2015 for her work on antimicrobials. She is an expert member on several panels related to stem cells therapeutics, functional foods and nutraceuticals (FSSAI), standards for food and water requirements during disaster management (NDMA) and jury for several award committees for awards in Science e.g. BM Birla, Ranbaxy Research and King Faisal science awards and has received ~1.5 million GBP for research in >20 grants funded by Govt. of India & Indian industries.

Amit Gupta

Amit is one of the Co-Founder’s of InMobi and is currently based in the San Francisco office. After running the Revenue and Operations function for many years globally, he has taken up the responsibility to grow InMobi’s dominance and market share in North America region. Apart from this, Amit is leading an ambitious initiative for InMobi which has potential to change the world of advertising and can also create multi-billion dollar business for InMobi. Post his graduation, Amit chose to stray away from the conventional low risk approach of working with large companies and decided to opt for a career with startups to fulfill his desire to learn a few tricks on running a business. The passion of entrepreneurship really took over him within a few years and he founded a product company called Analyticsworks, that created a business intelligence platform focused on media, retail and commerce. Post this, Amit was fascinated by the exponential growth of mobile phones and thus embarked on the journey to start InMobi. Outside of InMobi, Amit has been playing an active part in building a vibrant startup ecosystem. He is an angel investor and also advises young entrepreneurs on the various aspects of running a startup.Amit has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

Arunachalam Muruganantham
MD, Jayaashree Industries

Arunachalam Muruganantham is a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India. He is the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad making machine and has innovated grass-roots mechanisms for generating awareness about traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India. His mini-machines, which can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a third of the cost of commercial pads, have been installed in 23 of the 29 states of India. He is currently planning to expand the production of these machines to 106 nations. In 2014, TIME magazine placed him in its list of 100 Most Influential People in the World. In 2016, he was awarded Padma Shri by Government of India.

Jaspreet Bindra

Mr. Jaspreet Bindra is Group Senior Vice President for Digital Innovation and Ecommerce at Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. Mr. Bindra is responsible for implementation of digital technologies for Mahindra’s auto division, two wheeler business and other consumer facing businesses. He started his career with Tata Administrative Services (TAS) and spent 11 years with the Tata Group, across its FMCG and telecom businesses. He worked with Microsoft India for six years and headed its internet business and, subsequently, the retail, entertainment and devices businesses. He served as Chief Executive Officer of GETIT Infoservices Ltd., from February 2013 to October 2014.

He was also part of the founding team and served as the Chief Operating Officer of (now eBay India). He has also served as the Vice Chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). He has worked as an advisor for several startups including Qwikcilver, Mapmygenome, Storyxpress and power2sme among others. Mr. Bindra is an avid quizzer and has the distinct honor of winning the Brand Equity Quiz thrice, in 1995, 1997 and 2004.

Mike Rielly

Mike Rielly is a veteran of the sports industry, including 20 years with the world’s largest sports and entertainment agency, IMG, where as Senior Vice President he managed world-class athletes, organized major sports and entertainment events, and developed international markets. While with IMG, Mike lived and worked in Japan and Singapore for a total of 11 years, in addition to postings in Cleveland Headquarters, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other sports industry engagements include Executive Director of the Mark H. McCormack Foundation, and assisting Creative Artists Agency with its move into sports. Mike began following his passion for higher education in 2009, first as a highly regarded lecturer in sports marketing at the Haas School of Business, then as Assistant Dean and Executive Director of the Berkeley MBA for Executives Program. Mike is currently CEO of UC Berkeley’s Center for Executive Education, whose mission is to produce change-making innovators across disciplines, in today’s complex business environment, and to extend the school’s impact on organizations and industries. A graduate of Stanford University and Ohio University, Mike is an avid sports and architecture enthusiast, and spends most weekends working on his ranch in Anderson Valley, one of California’s most beautiful apple and wine regions.
